From her childhood, her fondest memory is of the sewing machine, which her mother pedaled while chatting with her grandmother, her great role model for storytelling. Her imagination opened doors, amidst sewing, embroidery, and dreams. In her enchanting lecture, she weaves together with words, gestures, expressions, and affections stories she has heard and read—a story about marriage told by her grandmother and the story of the Iguazu Falls—intertwining scientific research she participated in, where she discovered and systematized the types of storytellers. Edvânia Braz Teixeira Rodrigues is a woman, daughter, mother, wife, teacher, reader, writer, and storyteller who seeks to enjoy the joy of reading books and the stories that reach her ears daily, whether in artistic moments or in her relationships with the people she lives with. She worked for 12 years as a dance/physical education teacher in public and private schools, and as a professor of higher education at the Federal University of Goiás. She was Superintendent of Development and Evaluation at the Goiás State Department of Education, Coordinator of the Permanent Commissions of the Goiás Institute of Education/IFG, and Municipal Secretary of Education of Senador Canedo, Goiás. And, since 1992, coordinator of the Gwaya Storytellers Group/UFG. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
