This lecture explores 3D printing as a promising approach to addressing the challenges of sustainable housing and reconstruction in the Arab region, where the need for rapid provision of decent housing intersects with the requirements of environmental and economic sustainability. The lecture examines materials suitable for architectural printing—from recycled cement mixtures to local earth materials—and how these technologies can reduce costs, minimize waste, and accelerate construction. It also discusses the technical and cultural challenges associated with adopting this technology in the Arab context and offers a vision for adapting it to local resources, climate, and needs. Shatha Yousef Taha is a Sudanese architect and researcher, a graduate of King Saud University (KSU), whose research focuses on the applications of advanced technologies in the field of sustainable housing, particularly 3D printing in Arab contexts.
