Engraving phone cases with mother-of-pearl inlay: How did it work?

I recently got an interesting challenge—engraving phone cases! A friend brought me about 20 cases that mimic wood, but I wasn’t sure if they were real wood or just plastic with a wood-like texture. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to experiment and record the process. But we didn’t stop at just engraving! My friend had an even more creative idea—to add mother-of-pearl inlays to some of the designs. For our first inlay test, we chose a compass design, carefully engraving a recessed area to match the thickness of the mother-of-pearl. It turns out that mother-of-pearl is surprisingly easy to cut, and the final result looks stunning!
