New Orleans Weather: Heat Advisory, Tropical Depression 2 to strengthen to Tropical Storm Bertha

Very hot and humid weather will continue early this week. A Heat Advisory is in effect on Monday from 10 AM to 6 PM, as feel-like temperatures could reach 112 degrees. Expect a mix of sun and clouds with a chance for an isolated shower or storm on Monday. This week will remain hot and oppressively humid. Afternoon temperatures will be in the low 90s. A few scattered showers and storms are possible each day due to more tropical moisture moving into the region associated with Tropical Depression 2, which will likely become Tropical Storm Bertha by Monday. High pressure near the lower MS River Valley will help guide this system west, and it could cross along or move close to the Louisiana coastline by midweek. Expect minor impacts from Tropical Depression 2 this week, especially on Wednesday. Scattered heavy rain and storms will pass through the area midweek, leading to some localized street flooding. Minor coastal flooding will be likely. Additionally, it will be windy midweek across the area with strong gusts around 20-30 mph. Impacts will be higher along coastal Louisiana and Mississippi, with the chance for heavier rain and stronger winds being higher for coastal areas. Stay tuned. In the Tropics: Tropical Depression 2 has formed in the eastern Gulf. It will likely strengthen to Tropical Storm Bertha by Monday. Impacts are expected along the Gulf Coast this week from the Florida Panhandle, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. Heavy rain and flooding could impact the eastern and central Gulf Coast with minor storm surge/coastal flooding, strong winds, and rough marine conditions. It's possible this system could strengthen to a hurricane status this week if it spends more time in the open Gulf waters as it moves westward. Minor impacts are expected across Southeast LA and South MS. At this point, plan for passing heavy showers and storms, breezy conditions, minor coastal flooding, and very rough marine conditions.
