Closer to the city centre stands the magnificent Moritzburg Castle, a late Gothic fortress constructed between 1484 and 1503 for the Archbishops of Magdeburg. Today it houses the Art Museum of Saxony-Anhalt, where contemporary architecture has been carefully integrated into the historic walls.
