Business Acumen 101

So how would I describe business acumen? You know, business acumen is really about how a company makes money. It's not necessarily just a finance class, although that is a language that you want to know and understand — it's the language that we use in business. But having good business acumen is about understanding how the company makes its choices to be able to drive economic value. How the company then is trying to shift and move and innovate in the future to make its future better than the past. But then linking what you do in your role to contribute to that, is a vital linkage between what you do and where the company is going. That is good business acumen.
