2015 BMW X6 M - Track Review & Test Drive

The 2015 BMW X6 M. This is a premium SUV from BMW, featuring a 4.4L V8 producing 567 HP, which I’ll be comparing to the Acura MDX, BMW X5 M, Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes ML400, and Volkswagen Touareg. Starting with the drawbacks, the BMW comes at a steep price tag, just under 113 thousand as tested. It’s fairly heavy and gets poor gas mileage (how unexpected) at 14 city 19 highway. It also has the least cargo space of the group. That said, it’s track performance is incredible. 0-60 in 4 seconds, neutral handling through the slalom, fantastic stopping power, and just like the X5M it has the highest ground clearance of the luxury SUVs in the group. Compared to the X5M, it’s not quite 100 lbs lighter, but sacrifices heavily in cargo space, legroom and headroom. The diet it’s on cranks it’s price up another $6000 too. If you happen to be cross shopping an X6 and X5 M, my recommendation is the X5 M for added practicality, though it does seem odd calling a $106k 567 HP SUV practical. Due to their performance nature, the BMWs did not compete in the off-road portion.
