From the Cockpit: Winair ATR 42 Caribbean Island Hopping

Join us in the cockpit of a Winair ATR 42-500 for a spectacular day of island hopping through the Caribbean. We begin in St Maarten before flying to Dominica, where the crew takes us over the famous “Coconut Patch” approach which involves descending mere feet above lush mountains before a steep turn to line up with the runway. Who knew the ATR could fly like a sports car? From there, we continue to Barbados before returning to Winair’s home base at Princess Juliana International Airport. Along the way, we meet two exceptional Caribbean pilots, hear from them about their experience flying here, some of their favorite places to go, and their thoughts on the Twin Otter (the Winair workhorse) and get a close look at the ATR flight deck. We also learn how Winair is using the aircraft as part of its continued expansion across the region. Expect dramatic approaches, beautiful island scenery and a rare behind-the-scenes look at regional flying in one of the most challenging and visually stunning parts of the world. A huge thank you to Winair and the crew for making this flight possible. Also to Visit St Maarten for all their help making this trip a reality.
