Paul Simon ~ Late In The Evening 1980 Extended Meow Mix
Paul Simon was born October 13, 1941 in Newark, NJ but was raised in Queens, NYC. His mother was a teacher and his father was a college professor and dance band leader who played double bass. Paul was also bit by the music bug and when he was 11 met Art Garfunkel who was the same age. In school they idolized the two part harmonies of the Everly Brothers and performed the first time at a school play "Alice In Wonderland" for their sixth grade graduation. Two years later Paul had written "The Girl For Me" to record with Art that became the first copyrighted Simon and Garfunkel song and is enshrined in the Library Of Congress. Their next song "Hey Schoolgirl" was released as by "Tom & Jerry" reached #49 on the Hot100. After high school they both pursued higher education and solo careers they reunited in 1963 to form Simon & Garfunkel and a demo of "Sounds Of Silence" clinched them record deal with Columbia. Further solo recordings by Simon were waxed but they were again demo versions for songs that S&G would record and turn into huge hits. Their professional relationship has been troubled and the two would break up and then come around again over the course of many years. By 1980, neither had any chart action until Simon signed with Warner and made a semi biographical film called "One Trick Pony" which meant that someone was thought to be good for only one thing. The soundtrack included the Grammy nominated track "Late In The Evening" that peaked at #6 on the Hot100. Steve Gadd was responsible for creating the drum patterns that made the song rock. He created the groove by using two pairs of drumsticks that gave the illusion of two drummers.
