San Francisco MUNI Metro Trams

Scenes from San Francisco's MUNI Metro System. The Metro combines the remaining surface tramway routes in west San Francisco and the Twin Peaks Tunnel with the Market Street Subway tunnel, a double stacked tunnel where BART runs on the lower level and the MUNI Metro operates the upper. It also includes newly built surface track, the Third Street line which runs south of the city through the Bayview area. The new Central Subway, which opened a week after my visit, connects from the 4th & King Street junction to the Chinatown area via a new tunnel. This is intended to provide relief to the Trolleybus routes 30 & 45 that serve the area. There are proposals to further extend this new line.
