Wildflowers of the Pacific Northwest | British Columbia
As a follow up to my Birds of the Pacific Northwest video (link below), I've featured 60 species of flowers you may run across here in the PNW. I share this more as an appreciation of the beauty and variety of these various species than as an identification guide. For several of these species, this video can only act as a rudimentary identification guide at best. Proper identification would require looking at the leaves of the plant, its location, its size, etc. In the examples of penstemon, Oregon grape, arnica, lupine, forget-me-not, and paintbrush, there are several species of each to be discovered. There are over 30 species of paintbrush to be found in the Pacific Northwest! Most flowers have several common names that they go by - I have chosen the names I have heard most often or are used in my guide books. I will add the scientific names to each soon. Having said all that, which are your favourites? Mine are penstemon and monkey flowers! 0:07 Red Columbine 0:16 Pearly Everlasting 0:28 Fringed Grass of Parnassus 0:41 Chocolate Lily (Fritillaria camschatcensis) 0:53 Western Anemone/Pasqueflower (Anemone occidentalis) 1:06 Bunchberry/Dwarf Dogwood 1:19 St John's Wort 1:28 Ghost Pipe 1:48 Common Camas 1:57 Round Leaved Orchis 2:10 Oregon Grape 2:21 Subalpine Daisy/Fleabane 2:34 Birchleaf Spirea 2:54 Purple Monkey Flower 3:09 Calypso Orchids 3:21 Sagebrush Mariposa Lily 3:36 White Bog Orchid 3:47 Yellow Pond Lily 4:00 Spreading Dogbane 4:11 Arnica 4:19 Broad Leaved Starflower 4:27 Prairie Crocus 4:46 Menzies' Larkspur 4:56 Common Foxglove (Invasive) 5:16 Sulphur Buckwheat 5:29 Common Harebell 5:41 Shrubby Penstemon 6:02 Tiger Lily 6:17 False Solomon's Seal 6:35 Common Tansy (Invasive) 6:45 Self Heal 6:55 Kinnikinnick 7:11 Red Clover (Introduced) 7:19 White Clover (Introduced) 7:37 Salmonberry 7:46 Common Dandelion (Introduced) 8:00 Queen's Cup 8:13 Fireweed 8:25 Yellow Lady's Slipper 8:37 Policeman's Helmet (Invasive) 9:01 Yellow Glacier Lily 9:17 Three Spot Mariposa Lily 9:29 Rose Spirea/Hardhack 9:43 Arrowleaf Balsamroot 9:52 Thimbleberry and a crab spider 10:02 Yellow Columbine 10:16 Wild Bergamot 10:31 Columbian Monkshood 10:38 Wood Lily 10:51 Arctic Lupine 11:13 Forget Me Nots 11:21 Moss Campion 11:34 Yellowstone Draba 11:48 Paintbrush (200+ species) 12:03 Sitka Valerian 12:11 Fringecup 12:34 Few Flowered Shooting Stars 12:47 Spring Beauties 13:00 Jacob's Ladder 13:15 Nootka Rose Birds of the Pacific Northwest • Birds of the Pacific Northwest Flowers of the PNW ~ Part II • Wildflowers of the Pacific Northwest | Par...
