A guide to learning how to correctly finger all major and minor scales on the keyboard with both hands simultaneously. Major scales can be divided into three groups, which establish different hand synchronization patterns. The most familiar pattern for beginners is that of Group 1, which includes C, D, E, G, and A major. However, we also need to know the patterns for playing the other seven scales with both hands. The twelve minor scales only partially adapt to this grouping. Only Group 1 (C, G, D, A, and E minor) follows the fingering pattern of Group 1. For other minor scales, we have to make adjustments and cannot strictly follow the fingering of the parallel major scales. We opt for the fingering of the relative minor, or even the relative to another mode (Dorian, for example). We have to make changes based on the tonal structure of some of these minor scales.
