PI propone que la coalición presente un lema común en las elecciones departamentales

The Independent Party (PI) is proposing that the parties comprising the governing coalition run in the 2025 departmental elections under a common banner. The resolution was announced this past weekend during a meeting of the party's Federal Board. The Minister of Labor and leading figure of the PI, Pablo Mieres, explained at a press conference that this arrangement is "necessary" to achieve a majority of votes. He noted that in national elections, the rules allow parties to run separately in the first round and then consolidate their support for the runoff, but that this possibility does not exist at the departmental level. This position of the PI aligns with that of the Colorado Party, which had already proposed something similar to the National Party earlier this year. The leader of Open Cabildo, Senator Guido Manini Ríos, had also expressed support for departmental coalitions, although he stipulated that a neutral banner be used. Let's remember that in the 2020 departmental elections in Montevideo, Laura Raffo, the candidate for the multi-party coalition, ran under the Independent Party banner.
