Immediately following the World Rapid Championship, the World Blitz Championship took place. The favorites here were, of course, Magnus Carlsen, but also Hikaru Nakamura and Anish Giri. In round 14, Carlsen faced Rapport, the world-class Hungarian player. My God, what a game! It's safe to say that this is perhaps the craziest game of the year – at least in blitz. Just look at this madness on 64 squares... The 2022 World Blitz Championship will take place in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The entire world class has arrived and is determined to wrest the title from last year's winner, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. 21 rounds of blitz will be played in a format of 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment per move.
