-19°C Wind Chill Wild Camp | 3-Season Tents Pushed to the Limit
In this video, we head into the Brecon Beacons for a winter wild camp on Fan Brycheiniog, taking on freezing temperatures, a midnight ridge walk, and an unforgettable winter sunrise. We set off towards Fan Brycheiniog under clear skies, walking the hills beneath the ridge as the sun set and the temperature dropped fast. By the time we reached the lake below the ridge, it was clear that winter conditions were well and truly setting in. With the air turning bitterly cold, we found a spot to camp, pitched our tents, layered up, and cooked dinner by the lake — even chilling our morning Monsters in the water ready for breakfast. Later that night, we set off to complete the Fan Brycheiniog ridge walk at midnight, climbing in extreme cold and severe wind chill. We reached the top of the ridge for photos and night shots, using the Canon R8 to capture the winter conditions and mountain scenery in low-light, before using our ice axes to assist us safely on the descent back to camp. After a short night’s sleep, we were back out early for sunrise. At first, the cloud was low and visibility poor, but as the sun rose the clouds lifted, revealing an incredible winter sunrise over the Brecon Beacons — the perfect reward after a cold night in the mountains. We also talk through how our gear performed in real winter conditions, including our tents: OEX Bandicoot 2 Ultralight OEX Rakoon 2.1 After packing up, we reflect on the trip, discuss how our kit held up overnight, chat with local campers, and make the long walk back to the car — another winter adventure with Three Men and Ben.
