Weekly Waveform 3 - Starting system amperage

This is the third in a series of labscope activity exercises to help us pick up that labscope for a few minute a week and perform a test with it. This will be a skill building series to help new and experienced technicians become familiar with labscope operation and waveform acquisition. If you want to follow along with the series make sure to subscribe and join the FB group.   / automotiveweeklywaveforms   For this capture we are adding our first accessory, an amp clamp. For starting and charging systems your best bet is a high amp clamp because we will be exceeding the 60-80 amp limit of a low amp clamp. If you don't have a high amp clamp and still want to participate in this weeks assignment then just omit the amperage trace and include an additional trace related to the starting system. Channel 1 - 20v - Battery positive and negative (this will be our ground reference for all channels.) Channel 2 - 20v - I chose the B+ lead at the starter but you can chose a different test connection if you want Channel 3 - 20v - Starter solenoid command (small wire at the starter) Channel 4 - 500mv - High amp clamp scaling of 1amp=1milliVolt connected around battery positive or negative lead. For 2 channel user Channel 1 - starter solenoid command Channel 2 - high amp clamp around battery cable Snap-on sweep settings 100ms-200ms PicoScope sweep settings 1s/div-2s/div this will allow 10seconds or 20 seconds of total screen time.
