Shock over Donald Trump's plan to sell banks early access to Truth Social posts | The Business

From the start of August 2026, the US president's Truth Social platform will offer banks and traders early access to influential posts which could move financial markets. The announcement follows recent financial disclosures from President Trump showing he earned at least $US 2.2 billion from his various businesses - including cryptocurrency interests - in his first year back in the White House, up more than $US1.5 billion on the previous year. ABC's America's editor John Lyons - who famously attracted the ire of the US President for asking about his business dealings - joins The Business to discuss the ethical and potential legal concerns over the US President selling preferential access to his posts. He says it has been reported it will cost as much as $US100,000 a month for a company to get faster access to Donald Trump's Truth Social content which often includes government announcements. "So the idea that a selected group of people, directed very much at Wall Street and the financial markets, would get special or early information ahead of most American people, I think is something that, even by Donald Trump's standards, is staggering." Mr Lyons says whether the early access constitutes insider trading is a debate for lawyers. But he said "the founding fathers of the US Constitution wouldn't have thought of this". #ABCBusiness Subscribe: http://ab.co/1svxLVE Note: In most cases, our captions are auto-generated. #ABCNEWS #ABCNEWSAustralia
