In 2001, Tommi Makinen was chasing what was at the time, a record 5th world rally title, battling with Colin McRae, Richard Burns and Carlos Sainz. However, in the final 4 rounds of the season, his Mitsubishi team made the decision to use their new WRC spec car, which would end up costing Tommi the title.
