Auritha Tabajara canta um cordel indígena para Aldear a Educação!

Composed by Auritha Tabajara at the request of the Socio-Environmental Institute (ISA), “Aldear a Educação” (Coming to the Village Education) is an invitation to Indigenous and non-Indigenous educators to teach Indigenous histories, cultures, and knowledge in Brazilian classrooms. This strengthens Law 11.645 of 2008, which mandates the teaching of Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous histories and cultures in basic education. The cordel (a type of Brazilian folk poetry) produced by Auritha was set to music by anthropologist and musician Paola Gibram and illustrated for the publication “Um cordel para aldear a educação” with woodcuts by Lucélia Borges. Both materials are part of the Aldear a Educação initiative, a partnership with the National Forum for Indigenous School Education (Fneei), which brings Indigenous knowledge to São Paulo in a special program on April 28th and 29th at Sesc 24 de Maio, in São Paulo. *This publication is a product of the project "Defense and Promotion of Indigenous Rights in Brazil: Building Capacities and Engaging People for a More Just Future," carried out by the National Forum for Indigenous School Education (Fneei) and the Socio-Environmental Institute (ISA), with funding from the European Union.
