A Beautiful Village of Iran || Abyaneh
Welcome to Abyaneh, a beautiful historic village in Iran. Nestled in the Karkas Mountains, about seventy kilometres southeast of Kashan, Abyaneh sits at over two thousand meters above sea level. Its houses, built with red clay rich in iron oxides, give the village a warm and unique colour that makes it stand out against the mountain landscape. Walking through Abyaneh feels like stepping back in time. The village is home to ancient monuments, including a Zoroastrian fire temple, Seljuq and Ilkhanid mosques, and the famous Friday Mosque from the eleventh century. Inside, you can see carved wooden doors, a mihrab from the fourteenth century, and a minbar dating back to 1073. The Imamzadeh shrine, with its turquoise domes and peaceful veranda, is said to hold the remains of Isa and Yahya, sons of the seventh Shia Imam. The people of Abyaneh proudly keep their traditions alive. Men wear black coats and wide trousers, while women dress in colourful floral headscarves, knee-length skirts, and handmade shoes called Giveh. Even the houses reflect tradition, with wooden balconies, lattice windows, and doors that have two knockers—one for men and one for women. Though Abyaneh has only about three hundred residents today, it remains the largest village in its district. Visitors come from all over the world to admire its red houses, historic monuments, and calm mountain views. Abyaneh is not just a village—it is a living museum of Iranian culture and history.
