RENAULT 5 HISTORICO | COMPACTO CLÁSICO | GASOLINA | CONTACTO | revistadelmotor.es

The Renault 5 was created in 1972, following the trend of small and simple vehicles created by the Mini. Its designer was Michel Boué, who developed the design based on a photograph of the Renault 4 and drew up the main lines of the future Renault 5 in two days. The first model manufactured in Spain, in the Valladolid factory, was the 950, based on the French TL, with a 956 cc engine. From 1974, the range was split into 950 and TL, based solely on equipment. After the 950 disappeared shortly afterwards, in 1975 the GTL joined the range, with a 1037 cc engine, later replaced by a 1108 cc engine. Also in 1975, the semi-sporty version TS (Tourisme Sport) was launched, with a 1289 cc, 64 hp engine and a Weber-Bressel double-barrel carburettor, being then considered in a certain way as a luxury sports compact. With this version, well-known Spanish drivers such as Carlos Sainz or Jesús Puras began in the world of rallying. The last version launched on the market was the TX (replacing the TS) and had a 1,397 cc, 63 hp engine and a Weber 32-DIR 100 vertical carburettor, with two barrels.
