40 años después de la toma del palacio de justicia, llega Noviembre, un retrato de ese horror

November 6 and 7 mark the 40th anniversary of the Palace of Justice holocaust, when the M-19 (Mexican Revolutionary Army) decided to take over the courthouse by force, kidnapping the judges with the aim of forcing them to prosecute then-President Belisario Betancur. The state's response was an equally brutal military operation, which also involved bloodshed and fire, leaving a devastating toll: not only did most of the guerrillas involved in the takeover die, but also several of the kidnapped judges. In total, nearly 100 Colombians lost their lives, including 22 guerrillas and 11 judges—half of the Supreme Court of Justice. Many books and documentaries have been produced about this tragic event, which marked generations and, to this day, remains unresolved before the courts. However, I believe that the film "Noviembre," by director and screenwriter Tomás Corredor, represents the first time this episode has been addressed in depth on the big screen. It's a work that arrives at a key moment, when we continue to remember and demand truth about that day that left an open wound in the country's history.
