The Nagano Tournament, which will determine the representative schools for the summer National High School Baseball Tournament to be held at Koshien Stadium, kicked off on July 5th at Sekisui Heim Matsumoto Stadium. Led by the 2024 champion, Nagano Nihon University, 71 teams from 82 schools across the prefecture (including three combined teams) entered the stadium, ushering in the hot summer for high school baseball players. Rain continued to fall in Matsumoto City until the early hours of the morning, and the sky was cloudy with occasional glimpses of sunshine until just before the opening ceremony. By the time the players entered the stadium, the sky had turned blazing with midsummer heat. What drama awaits us this year? The Nagano Prefectural Tournament will be held at four stadiums in Matsumoto, Nagano, Ueda, and Suwa. If all goes smoothly, the final will be held at Sekisui Heim Matsumoto Stadium on the 26th of this month, and the Nagano Prefectural representative school will be decided. *Usually, there are greetings and congratulatory speeches from the mayor, superintendent of education, tournament chairman, and Asahi Shimbun representatives, but these have all been cut out.
