Extortion syndicates: 'Boko Haram' terrorises Mamelodi
The extortion syndicate has also spread to the Gauteng province, specifically in Mamelodi, Tshwane where a group calling itself Boko Haram is terrorising businesses and residents. The group reportedly targets spaza shops, landlords and even taxi operators. Crime expert Calvin Rafadi says syndicates are cults and not dealing decisively with 'role models' has led to the recruitment and establishment of more groups.
