Three Kiha 100 series cars, originally assigned to the Morioka Rolling Stock Center and Ichinoseki Branch Office, which served JR East's Ofunato and Kitakami Lines, were retired in 2024 and driven to the Koriyama General Rolling Stock Center for scrapping. The car numbers are Kiha 100-39, 40, and 41. This model is the primary diesel railcar, and it was decided that they would not be dismantled but would be transferred to the Hitachinaka Kaihin Railway. After undergoing simple modifications, primarily paintwork, all cars were transported by land in the fall to the Minato Locomotive Depot, a railcar depot adjacent to Nakaminato Station. Of the three, car 40 was given a wrap and was scheduled to debut in May 2025, but this did not happen and was postponed several times, leaving its future unclear. This time, I visited Nakaminato Station and took a tour around the Minato Locomotive Depot, observing the situation and touching on various things.
