Filmmaker Profile: Agnes Varda
Filmmaker Agnès Varda was one of a kind. Using an original interview from 2017, this video chronicles Varda’s life and career, juxtaposing her own words with scenes from her films and personal life. Varda shares the experiences and inspirations that fueled her work, from her photography, to her family life with filmmaker Jacques Demy, to the cultural revolution she experienced in California, the feminist movement, and modern day gleaners in France. Moving along a dynamic and visual timeline, the video invites us into the life and mind of this canonical and unrelentingly innovative director and her remarkable oeuvre. This video is based on excerpts from Agnes Varda’s Academy Visual History interview conducted in 2017, which can be seen in it’s full length at this link: • Academy Visual History with Agnès Varda About the Academy Museum The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is the largest museum in the United States devoted to the arts, sciences, and artists of moviemaking.
