Webinar: ASHRAE Guideline 36 – Sequences for Medium Pressure VAV Systems ASHRAE’s Task Force on Decarbonization. 2022, states, “By 2030, the global built environment must at least halve its 2015 GHG emissions…” In the document’s Executive Summary the following statement is made, “By 2050, at the latest, all new and existing assets must have net zero GHG emissions across their whole life cycles.” However, designing with high-performance HVAC equipment does not ensure efficiency potential will be exploited unless these systems are assigned appropriately written sequences of operation (SOO). Currently, engineering firms nationally write their own SOOs resulting in a broad diversity of controlled solutions often varying per design resulting in inconsistency of performance. ASHRAE Guideline 36, Sequences of Operation for High Performance HVAC Systems was created to provide such consistent, effective standardized sequences. First published in 2018 the guideline wrote sequences to optimize VAV system performance. In the 2021 edition, SOOs were written for chilled water central plants, boiler systems and fan coils.
