Yoni Ben-Menachem, a senior researcher at the Jerusalem Center for Foreign and Security Affairs (JCFA), warned that Israel cannot rely on the possibility that Iran will thwart the understandings with the United States. According to him, President Trump is determined to reach an agreement within 60 days, out of a desire to keep the Strait of Hormuz open and to reach the midterm elections in the United States with economic stability, even if it is a problematic agreement from Israel's perspective. Ben-Menachem claimed that a struggle is underway in the American administration between two approaches: one, identified with Vice President J. D. Vance, which seeks to integrate Iran into the Lebanese arrangement and leave Hezbollah as a significant force; and the other, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which advocates strengthening the Lebanese government as the sole sovereign. According to him, if Trump adopts the first line, the pressure on Israel to withdraw from southern Lebanon will increase. "We must not fantasize that the Iranians will thwart the agreement," he concluded. "We must prepare for the possibility that Trump will sign it and adapt Israeli policy to this reality."
