JUSTINO MÁRTIR: El filósofo APOLOGISTA y mártir | BITE

Justin Martyr was born around 100 AD in the Roman city of Flavia Neapolis. Raised by pagan parents, he sought to find the meaning of life in the philosophies of his time. His first teacher was a Stoic. He was followed by a Peripatetic (itinerant philosopher). Then came a Pythagorean. Finally, he embraced Platonism; but all this proved unsatisfactory. Finally, around 130 AD, after a conversation with an old man, his life was transformed: "Suddenly a fire was kindled in my soul. I fell in love with the prophets and these men who had loved Christ; I reflected on all their words and discovered that only this philosophy was true." Justin worked hard to reconcile faith and reason. His teaching ministry took him first to Ephesus in 132 AD, where he had a dispute with a Jew named Trypho over the true interpretation of Scripture. Later, Justin moved to Rome, founded a Christian school, and wrote two bold apologies. In these writings, Justin attempted to show that the Christian faith alone was truly rational. He taught that the Logos (Word) was incarnated to teach humanity the truth and to redeem people. But Justin and his disciples were arrested for their faith. When the prefect threatened them with death, Justin said, "If we are punished by our Lord Jesus Christ, we shall be saved." They were eventually beheaded around 162 AD. Since giving his life for his faith in Christ, Justin has been nicknamed a Martyr.
