LOCAL BIOMES IN NIGERIA EXPLAINED🔥🔥 Every jamb 2026 students should know this ❗️❗️

A biome is a large terrestrial ecosystem characterized with its unique soil, climate, plant and animal life. Key Biomes in Nigeria include: 1. Mangrove Swamps (Coastal Region): Located along the coast and in the Niger Delta, characterized by saltwater-tolerant trees with pneumatophore(breathing) and silt root and high humidity. 2. Tropical Rainforest: Found in the southern part of the country, featuring dense forests with tall tree in strata, high rainfall, and high biodiversity. 3. Guinea Savanna: The largest biome or Vegetation in the country , covering over half the country characterize with tall grasses and short trees. 4. Sudan Savanna: Located in the northern part, characterized by lower rainfall and shorter trees. 5.Sahel Savanna: Found in the extreme north, featuring arid conditions, sparse vegetation, and frequent droughts. 6. Montane/Highland Vegetation: Occurs on high-altitude plateaus, such as the mambila Plateau and the eastern border mountains (Mandara Plateau), exhibiting cooler climates. NB: the Jos plateau is no longer classified as a total highland or montane region because of the large mining, deforestation, agriculture activities that has occurred over the years resulting the area to a savanna in modern day.
