Get to know the new Line 6-Orange of the São Paulo Metro. Line 6-Orange was inaugurated on July 2, 2026, but its access to the public was only opened the following day. Construction began in 2015 but was halted in 2016 and remained stopped for four years due to the involvement of construction companies in corruption scandals, resuming in 2020. It was the first public-private partnership (PPP) for public transportation in Brazil, meaning the public sector contributes the expropriations and part of the funding, while a private company provides the remaining money and executes the works and operates the line after completion. The Spanish company Acciona, through its concessionaire Linha Uni, is responsible for the project. However, the inauguration received criticism for being brought forward without the first section of six stations being ready for delivery on that date, mainly due to electoral issues. There is still much to be done, and walking through the stations, the rush to deliver them unfinished is evident. The other nine stations are scheduled to open by 2027.
