We Watched SUMO WRESTLERS Train in Tokyo?! (Alpen + Shinjuku Shopping) | Japan Family Vlog

We went to our first ever sumo show in Tokyo, and it was way more than just a match β€” we got a full breakdown of sumo history, wrestler daily routines, and what life is really like inside a sumo stable. Then it was off to Alpen Tokyo for a shopping spree, before wandering through Shinjuku, one of Tokyo's biggest shopping and entertainment hubs. In this video: πŸ₯‹ What a sumo show actually involves (it's not just the matches) πŸ“œ A quick history of sumo and why it's more than a sport in Japan 🍚 What sumo wrestlers eat and how they train daily πŸ›οΈ Shopping at Alpen Tokyo β€” outdoor and sports gear haven πŸŒ† Exploring Shinjuku, one of Tokyo's most famous shopping districts πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ A real family reaction to experiencing traditional Japanese culture up close Sumo wrestlers, known as rikishi, follow an incredibly disciplined daily routine β€” training (keiko) starts before dawn on an empty stomach, followed by enormous calorie-dense meals like chankonabe (a protein-rich hot pot) designed to build mass and strength. Life in a sumo stable (heya) is steeped in centuries-old tradition, hierarchy, and ritual, which made watching it up close such a unique experience for our family. Shinjuku turned out to be one of our favourite areas of the whole trip β€” a mix of busy streets, incredible food, and an energy unlike anywhere else in Tokyo. We walked through part of Kabukicho during the day and only realised afterward that it's Tokyo's well-known entertainment district. It wasn't something we set out to see, but the whole neighbourhood was interesting to explore and completely fine to walk through as a family in daylight. πŸ“ Follow our journey: Instagram: @pauga_tribe TikTok: @pauga.tribe πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ About us: We're the Pauga family, sharing our travel adventures, faith, and everyday family life.
