Biking Ninh Binh Vietnam
After spending nearly a week in the busy capital city of Hanoi, we were looking forward to a more nature centred, tranquil experience, and Ninh Binh province is certainly the place for that. We picked up two bicycles and decided to see what we could uncover. Before long, we had discovered the Hoa Lư Ancient Capital. This city was the capital city of Vietnam during the 10th and 11th centuries before the and is packed with temples and fortress ruins scattered along lakes and in the shadow's of the province's famous limestone cliffs. The city was virtually impossible to invade due to its natural walls, and was never taken over before being deserted. Hoa Lu is a must-see for attraction for any history buff, as it packs more than its fair share of history onto the grounds. One of our favourite attractions in Vietnam so far, and just meters from the Ancient capital, Động Am Tiên is a picturesque lake surrounded by the same towering limestone cliffs that tower over the ancient capital. Also known as Tuyet Thin Coc, the lake seemed to be a popular attraction for the local Vietnamese people to enjoy the views with family - but particularly for wedding parties to come and take wedding photos. The grounds are particularly stunning due to the incredible contrast between the imposing cliffs and the lake below. Ultimately, the most impressive attraction so far was the Bai Dinh Temple. There are actually two temples - an old one built on the side of a cliff some 300 steps above the surrounding villages, and a new temple that has been standing for around 10 years. The newer temple is impressive, and is surrounded by a long, gated area dotted by smaller buddha statues. The grounds are truly impressive. ________________________ WHO ARE WE?
