Un hallazgo excepcional: La II Guerra Púnica en el Hospital provincial de Córdoba

The expansion works at the Provincial Hospital of Córdoba in 2020 opened an unprecedented window into the history of the oppidum of Corduba during the conflict between Rome and Carthage. On the occasion of the 2026 European Archaeology Days, archaeologists Fernando Quesada and Rafael Martínez gave a lecture analyzing the significance of this discovery. The finding of elephant bones, alongside catapult projectiles, documents a military episode at the end of the 3rd century BC that not only illustrates the brutality of ancient artillery but also complements and corroborates the accounts of classical written sources with material evidence. A unique opportunity to delve deeper into the military history that lay dormant beneath the soil of our city.
