A Palisades Story | Frank Florio the Shad Fisherman

Meet Frank Florio, the son of a shad fisherman who was able to feed himself during the Great Depression by catching this staple food. Each April, hundreds and thousands of shad were captured along the Palisades and further upriver. They would be sold down in Fulton Street's Fish Market. As April draws near, the shad are beginning to swim upriver to spawn. Frank Florio recently sat down with us and remembered his childhood and how shad fishing continued to shape him as an adult.
