Virginia's Hidden Gem: 4-Days on Lake Moomaw

We spent 4-days camping at Lake Moomaw in the George Washington & Jefferson National Forest in Virginia at the Greenwood Point boat-in primitive campground. This was the first part of our 10-day road trip through Virginia. Come along on our SUP camping journey as we paddle the clear warm waters of the lake & camp under the stars. 📆 Filmed in June 2025 Want to know more? 📍 Lake Moomaw is a large reservoir in the Alleghany Highlands of western Virginia formed by the Gathright Dam on the Jackson River. With 43 miles of undeveloped, wooded shoreline, it has beautiful secluded coves to explore. A popular place for fishing, It’s known for its "two-story" fishery, supporting both warm-water and cold-water fish species.  The only developed area is Bolar Mountain Recreation Area on the northern end of the lake which offers campgrounds, a beach, boat ramp, and hiking trails. https://maps.app.goo.gl/skr7D1WumcwXJ... 🏕️ We camped at the Greenwood Point boat-in primitive campground.
