What started out as a pop-up, turned into a cult following. Due to overwhelming demand for his signature barbecue, Pitmaster Matt Horn set about opening a permanent location in West Oakland for his brick-and-mortar restaurant, Horn Barbecue. Just as opening day was within sight, Shelter-In-Place guidelines changed yet again, and he shifted to a fully outdoor model. Setback after setback could have stopped him, but he persevered and opened his restaurant as hundreds of thousands of other eateries across the country faced shuttering.
