Karachi to Islamabad Vlog: Kachnar Park's artificial groundwater recharge site visit

According to authorities, the average annual rainfall in Islamabad is approximately 1,400mm. Through the conservation of just 30% of this rainwater via artificial groundwater recharge sites, it is possible to meet the demand for 46 million gallons of water per day, which exceeds the current supply of 45 million gallons per day. This is the first pilot site for state-of-the-art artificial groundwater recharge that is fully equipped with instrumentation capable of measuring groundwater quality, groundwater level, rainfall, and the quantity of rainfall injected into the aquifer. The pilot project has been initiated by WaterAid Pakistan, the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) Pakistan, and the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR), with the aim of identifying suitable groundwater recharge sites. The project has been financially supported by WaterAid and has identified seven potential sites for groundwater recharge. According to officials from WaterAid Pakistan, the country has been encountering difficulties concerning access to safe drinking water, which include issues related to the quality and quantity of surface and groundwater.
