Why You NEED To Upgrade Your Porsche Boxster Sound! | SOUND OFF - Ep.6: Porsche Boxster S 987
In this episode of SOUND OFF, we show you why you NEED to upgrade your Porsche Boxster sound, regardless of the spec! Want to win a Playstation 5 and Audison Amp? Make sure you enter our huge 10k giveaway! • Video In SOUND OFF, we show you exactly what manufacturers fit as a factory sound system, be it the standard system or optional upgrades, and compare those components against aftermarket upgrades. As part of the comparison we weigh the components, as generally weight gives a good indication of quality, but we also take you through the parts that build each component and the benefits offered in the aftermarket parts, primarily focussing on magnets, cone and speaker construction. In the 987 generation Porsche Boxster, three levels of sound system were available from the factory; the stock, non-amplified system, the Porsche Sound System Plus (ASK amplification) system, and the Bose amplified system. While these systems all claim to offer big improvements in quality, the reality of the situation is slightly different! The ASK Porsche Sound System Plus is a three-way amplified system, utilising a pair of tweeters on the dashboard, and then a 3" mid-range and 8" mid-bass speaker in each door, all powered by the basic class-d ASK amplifier fitted in the front boot. However, even the Bose system uses very similar components - it's just fitted with more speakers and a little bit more power from the amplifier, to give you more volume, but not necessarily more quality. The reason the quality lacks is due to the construction of the components themselves, as we show you in this video. The stock speakers are all in plastic housings, with paper cones and small, poorly performing ferrite magnets. This is because generic car audio components are designed to be made in large volumes, for as little cost as possible. In this video we compare the factory Porsche components to the Hertz Mille Pro range that we are installing into the vehicle, all of which are purpose-designed car audio speakers, utilising much better materials for build quality, which helps the speakers perform better, at higher power, for much longer. To upgrade the sound, we are fitting Hertz Mille Pro tweeters into a factory location in the dashboard, along with Hertz Mille Pro 3" mid-range and 6.5" mid-bass speakers into factory positions in the doors, for a completely stealth upgrade. These are all running fully active from the new Audison Prima 8.9 amplifier, which offers a lot more power per channel than the ASK amplifier, while also giving the ability to tune the system to ensure it performs at its absolute best within the Boxster cabin. Details for all the components can be found here: Hertz Mille Pro 3-way set: https://www.fourcaraudio.co.uk/brands... Audison Prima AP8.9: https://www.fourcaraudio.co.uk/brands... One of the biggest benefits of the Hertz Mille Pro range is the use of Neodymium magnets. Neodymium is a manufactured, rare-earth magnet, which contains much higher magnetic force in a smaller form factor than Ferrite, which is the magnet used on factory components due to its much cheaper price. By using a Neodymium magnet in the tweeters, a much better performance is offered in a very small form factor, whereas in the Hertz Mille Legend woofer, a much larger Neodymium magnet is used. This means the woofer offers a huge amount more power than the factory speaker, especially when amplified. For all the details, make sure you stay tuned to the very end of the video!
