El día después: Febres Cordero rompe el silencio en 1987, luego del secuestro presidencial

On January 17, 1987, one day after being kidnapped at Taura Air Base, President León Febres Cordero addressed the nation. In his statement, the president referred to what he called an attack on democracy, recalling the dramatic hours he spent held captive by Air Force commandos demanding the release of General Frank Vargas Pazzos. The so-called Black Friday of January 16 left dead, wounded, and a deep wound in relations between the civilian and military powers in Ecuador. Febres Cordero's statement, delivered in Guayaquil the following day, sought to demonstrate political strength and outline his version of events. This video recaptures that key moment in recent history, when a president became a hostage and came out to address the nation. ⚠️ This is an edited excerpt.
