French composer, conductor, and pianist Michel Legrand is known for his lush orchestrations and memorable hit songs, which won him 5 Grammy Awards and 3 Oscars. Film scores include The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and The Thomas Crown Affair. He blended jazz, classical, and popular styles, collaborating with artists like Miles Davis, Barbra Streisand, and Sarah Vaughan. Tony Walthers performed in his teens with Little Richard and became Liza Minnelli‘s vocal coach. He went on to work in LA and in London, recording and touring with many stars including Sting, Tina Turner, George Michael, the Pet Shop Boys, Toto, Kenny Loggins, Natalie Cole ,Robert Palmer, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams – and four years touring with Diana Ross. Ross was performing at the Midem Festival in Cannes, with her conductor Michel Legrand. He approached backing vocalist Tony Walthers and invited him to his studio to record some duets. Recorded live to digital, with no gimmicks, no overdubs, no drop-ins and no rehearsal, what you hear is a recording brimming with mutual respect and a shared love of musical discovery.
