A skating rink in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, closed its doors on May 6th after 60 years of history. A truly "final ice show" was held on the 10th at this beloved venue, featuring a magnificent ice dance performance by local figure skater Koshirō Shimada and others. Holding hands, the two glided gracefully across the ice. This was the "Ikukou couple," Koshirō Shimada (24) and Ikura Kushida (18), who formed an ice dance pair. Their performance took place at the Iyotetsu Sports Center, which closed its doors on May 6th after 60 years of history due to aging facilities. This event was organized by a local sports promotion group to express gratitude to the facility, which was the only skating rink in Ehime. It was truly the "final ice show." Shimada is from Matsuyama City. He began practicing at this rink around the age of six and, now 24, has competed in domestic and international competitions. At last year's All Japan Championships, they placed second in ice dance. This rink is truly their starting point. The "Ikukou couple" showcased perfectly synchronized steps and daring lifts, captivating the nearly 400 spectators gathered at the venue with their powerful performance. A fan of Shimada: "I came from Ozu. I was really looking forward to this. I've only seen Koshiro on TV, so it was great to see him up close." A female spectator: "I was so happy to see how well they skated. I thought they were amazing at skating so skillfully." A male spectator: "I don't often get the chance to see this, and Shimada and his partner were both beautiful. They used the rink so spaciously, so it was a really enjoyable watch." At the event, local children performed their final routines on this rink, and there was also time for them to skate with the athletes, enjoying their last moments on this memorable rink. Koshirō Shimada: "This is a place I always come back to, my roots, so I know I've said this many times before, but I'm truly sad to see it go."
