How would you respond if a gunfire incident occurred in the city? The Aichi Prefectural Police conducted a training exercise simulating a gang war. A man wearing a tie approaches a man wearing an armband, and suddenly... He fires a gun at close range, causing the man to flee. This police training exercise was based on a past incident. The scenario was a gang war between two gangs, in which a gang member disguised as a newspaper reporter approaches a rival gang member and fires a gun. Police officers responded to a 110 call and, after hearing the story from the man who had been shot, determined it to be a gang war. They deployed emergency personnel and observed the events leading up to the apprehension of the fleeing man. The number of gang members in Aichi Prefecture is on the decline, currently standing at around 500. However, on May 10th, a shooting suspected to be the result of a gang war occurred in Iga City, Mie Prefecture. The Aichi Prefectural Police say they will continue to strengthen their vigilance so that they can respond quickly to such incidents.
