O pianista mais ouvido do mundo: Víkingur Ólafsson
Here's a reaction to one of the most talked-about names in classical piano today: Víkingur Ólafsson. He is the most listened-to living classical pianist in the world, having reached the impressive mark of 1 billion streams. Furthermore, he won his first Grammy in 2025 for his album of Bach's celebrated Goldberg Variations. ========== If you're a beginner at piano, sign up now (at no cost) for my Mini Piano Course for Beginners: https://www.aprendendopiano.com.br/mi... ========== What most attracts me to Víkingur's career is that he didn't launch himself through traditional international competitions, which is quite rare in the high-level piano scene. He seems to follow the trend of minimalist music, which is currently in vogue, especially in piano. He presents himself as a version of a classical pianist in this "less is more" culture, and that's very beautiful to see. In the video, we begin by listening to Víkingur Ólafsson playing a Bach sonata for organ, transcribed for piano. It's a slow movement that he seems to have made quite successful. This piece is interesting because, despite being by Bach, it almost sounds like a pop song due to its predictable, yet beautiful, harmonic sequence that repeats and intensifies. Next, we hear Víkingur Ólafsson playing Mozart, his own transcription of the piece Laudate Dominum. Here, he shows a very romantic playing style, just like his Bach. Following that, we see Víkingur Ólafsson playing the prelude and fugue in C minor from Book One of Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier, live. The prelude is played very fast, with impeccable rhythmic regularity and a very clear sound. Finally, we watch an older video, from 2013, where he plays an Intermezzo Opus 117 number one by Johannes Brahms. This is a Romantic piece that calls for a different style than Bach. He's a pianist who takes on these more delicate things, with a sweeter sound. Although it's a video from when he was quite young, you can already see his talent.
