Back to The Barre Documentary - Ep 5 Marco

In this episode we introduce Marco Di Salvo, a dancer with the state ballet company in the Opera de Bordeaux, France. Silvia and Marco met in Helsinki where Marco was previously engaged with the Finnish National Ballet. Silvia asked permission to the director of the company for a male dancer to participate in a performance of her dance project. Marco was invited to perform a ballet pas de deux and a contemporary duet in an event that presented various forms and styles of dance partnering through dance history. The event intended to celebrate the connection of people through dance and the artistic legacy passed on through generations of dancers, topics which are also discussed in this episode among other aspects of being a dancer in state theatres and ballet companies. BACK TO THE BARRE, A DOCUMENTARY ON BALLET GENERATIONS AND PERSPECTIVES, directed by choreographer and former ballet dancer Silvia Verges @silviaverges.dance, explores the daily work and views of dancers from various generations in their different situations, career stages and perspectives, with all the struggles and rewards. The documentary is presented in episodes introducing each time a new guest. At the same time Silvia makes a journey in the revers throughout her career as each one of the guests that she interviews is a current or former student, colleague or teacher of hers in the various phases of her own professional dance journey.
