This was episode 045/97. The station was relaunched on Sky in 2003 and in 2006, the new L!VE TV's name was changed to Babeworld to reflect the channel's gradual change of focus towards "adult material". Jimmy Jones had a reputation for being outspoken, much like Chubby! Throughout their careers they would have worked the same circuits together around the pubs and working men´s clubs of England. Jones was born in 1938 in Southampton UK, grew up in Rainham, Essex, attending a Catholic school, and initially wanting to train as a priest! Jones's autobiography, "Now This is a Very True Story"(ISBN 978-1843581963), written with the aid of Garry Bushell, was published in 2010. Jones first appeared on stage in 1962 at the Dagenham Working Men's Club, on the same bill as Max Bygraves. Granada Television discovered Jones in a Walthamstow pub in 1970, recruiting him for their popular Saturday night show, The Comedians. In 1983, Jones was presented with what is reported to have been the first gold disc for a comedy album, after his Live from the Talk of East Anglia (1981) achieved 100,000 sales. He was the first stand-up comedian to release a video of his live shows, and in the early 1980´s had three videos in the UK top ten. Chubby Oates has been described as a brilliant clubland and stage comedian Chubby Oates. He was one of the most familiar faces in London’s theatreland. No showbusiness function seemed to be complete without grand entrance from the larger than life, immaculately dressed, pipe-smoking cockney entertainer. Once described as an East End Mr Pickwick he was known for his onstage timing and quick-witted ad-libbing but he was just as entertaining holding court in a bar with friends. His language could be choice, his opinions on show business acerbic but he was much respected by his peers and was regarded as the comedian’s comedian. Chubby´s obituary written for the Stage Newspaper by Patrick Newley can be found here... https://www.thestage.co.uk/features/o... This video has been posted in memory of my father, Chubby Oates.
