The following question is also regularly asked: if humans descended from apes, where did apes come from? While not everyone who asks this question likely expects an answer, the question about the origins of apes is a valid one. And now is a good time to address it. Although our knowledge of the origins of our ape ancestors is still largely lacking, the pieces of the puzzle that have already been assembled are already shaping a very intriguing story. Welcome to the next installment of the "Our Ancestors" series, in which we will examine the history of our truly distant ancestors. This story has even more diverse threads and twists than the story of human origins—the one about an ape that descended from a tree, found its way to the savannah, and began walking on two legs.
