Their music is characterized by a mix of different music styles, including disco, trip-hop, funk and dance. Mark Brydon became active in the dance scene in the eighties and was behind various projects. In 1994 he met Róisín Murphy at a party. The opening line Do you like my tight sweater was the beginning of their relationship. A relationship that also immediately meant a musical collaboration. Do you like my tight sweater was also the name of the first album that was released in 1995. The debut album and the single Fun for me were successful. The album sold 250 thousand copies. The second album I am not a doctor, however, did much less well and therefore Moloko seemed to fall into oblivion. However, that changed when German house producer Boris Dlugosch made a remix of the song Sing it back. This version became a European hit in the summer of 1999. The band scored a hit in Belgium and the Netherlands with Sing it back. Not long after, the album Things to Make and Do (2000) was released with the single The time is now. This song also became a hit. In addition, Moloko's live act was expanded into a full-fledged band, which was visited at many festivals. In the summer of 2001, Róisín lent her voice to the song Never enough by Boris Dlugosch. This as a thank you for his remix to which they owed a lot. In 2017, British DJ Pete Tong made a symphonic version of Sing it back together with conductor Jules Buckley's The Heritage Orchestra. This version was sung by Becky Hill. The relationship between Mark and Róisín broke down in 2001. Nevertheless, the duo initially stayed together as business partners. In 2003 the album Statues followed, which was made difficult partly due to these vicissitudes. According to Murphy, the album was full of metaphors about loneliness and abandonment. Murphy lets slip in interviews: "I just don't see how we should proceed. The creation of Statues was too difficult for that." When the tour of Statues was over, the duo eventually disbanded. However, the DVD 11,000 Clicks and the compilation Catalogue were released. Murphy went solo and released the albums Ruby Blue (2005) and Overpowered (2007). Brydon works more behind the scenes but occasionally makes remixes as DJ Plankton. Welcome to the official Pinkpop Archive YouTube channel!
