Sudbury is the site of a huge Meteorite impact over one billion years old. A large impact crater was formed, and it deposited a massive array of precious metal such as nickel, gold, copper, and more. These minerals are vital to the manufacturing and fabrication of many things we use all over the world in many industries. Mining and smelting are key aspects to the economy of Ontario. There is a huge nickel deposit in Sudbury that is processed for many different functions. Sudbury has a long history of mining and has mines located all over the region.
