Outdoor clothing is increasingly expensive, and the marketplace a mess of marketing jargon and inconsistent claims. The North Face released Futurelight in 2019, rather similar to Outdoor Research's AscentShell. The aim was to unseat the juggernaut that is GORE-TEX and their family of technical shells. Here I pit the two together, plus some others to provide us with some context. I'll make follow-up tests, but I won't do straight up waterproofing tests, as that's not my niche.
